Carver Alumni Association celebrates 72nd anniversary


TARBORO — The G.W. Carver Alumni Association will celebrate its 72nd anniversary with the S.A. Gillam Scholarship Awards Banquet as the highlights of the celebration 5 p.m. July 16 at Double Tree Hotel, 651 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount.

The keynote speaker will be Kenneth Earl Wiggins, a 1979 SouthWest Edgecombe graduate. He continued his education at the UNC Chapel Hill where he graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. He is CEO and cofounder of KenCord Bio Therapeutics LLC, a privately owned pharmaceutical sales and marketing company based in Charlotte. Wiggins and his wife Sherry resides in Harrisburg, N.C. He is the son of Augusta and Doretha Wiggins of Pinetops.

Entertainment will be by vocalist Roenitia Steward of Raleigh. Other events scheduled during the celebration include July 5, a Dutch Breakfast begins a 9:30 a.m. followed by the annual business meeting at the Golden Corral in Rocky Mount. At 5 p.m. the class of 1966 will sponsor an old fashion prom at G.W. Carver Elementary School.
