ROCKY MOUNT —
An armed robbery attempt Sunday didn’t go quite the way four suspects had plotted it. Three were arrested and another escaped.
According to a press release a victim, whose name was not released by the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Department, went to Samuel Walston’s house at US 258 South outside of Crisp around 11 p.m. Sunday to retrieve items from a vehicle he had left there.
The victim was surprised when Walston, Casey Wayne Allen, 35, 3791 NC Hwy 124, Macclesfield, James Albert Travon Jenkins Jr. 23, 702 East Burnette St, Pinetops, and Jermaine Jenkins, 17, 203 Sally Jenkins St, Pinetops, approached him and demanded money, according to the release.The victim reportedly told the suspects he needed to call one of his friends to bring him some money.
During the telephone conversation, the victim’s friend apparently detected something was wrong and notified the sheriff’s department of his friends’ whereabouts.
When deputies arrived, three suspects ran into the woods and Walston ran in the house. A deputy released K-9 Tigo into the woods, where he found Allen and James Albert Travon Jenkins. Jermaine Jenkins escaped and has yet to be found. Deputies apprehended Walston inside the house without incident.
Walston, James Jenkins and Allen were arrested and charged with five counts of kidnapping, one count of attempted armed robbery and one count of resist, obstruct and delay. They were placed in jail under a $200,000 secured bonds.
Deputies also arrested Jermaine Battle who was at the scene, but not charged with the kidnapping. Battle was arrested on outstanding warrants for felony narcotics violation and resist, obstruct and delay. He was placed in Edgecombe County Detention Center under an $8,000 bond.
