BOE meet Monday

TARBORO — The Edgecombe County Board of Education faces a brief agenda at its regular business session Monday evening.

The board will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the central office board room at 412 Pearl St. in Tarboro.

A leadership academy is one of the items for information on the agenda. Last summer’s leadership academy brought together school administrators, teachers, parents and community leaders, and resulted in a new vision for Edgecombe County Public Schools (ECPS). Other items of information are the central office administrators’ retreat and the “COLLEGE WORKS” Leadership Development Program at SouthWest Edgecombe High School, a three-day summer training program designed to develop students’ skills for “college success,” including “self-assessment, critical analysis, problem solving, action planning and effective team work.” The program is set for Aug. 5-7.

Another item for information is a continuation memorandum of understanding for Northeast Leadership Academy (NELA). NELA is a “cohort-based innovative leadership-building program designed to help build a strong pool of highly qualified 21st century school leaders.”

The only action item on the meeting agenda is the approval of a cooperative agreement and budget for the 2013-2014 school year between North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services and Edgecombe Board of Education.

Before adjourning, the board in closed session will discuss the superintendent’s evaluation. John Farrelly is entering his second year as ECPS superintendent.
