Seven arrested for scamming elderly man

PRINCEVILLE — Seven suspected scam artists were arrested in connection with an incident involving the exploitation of an elderly man in Wilson County.

According to reports, the suspects allegedly charged him more than $7,400 for residential repairs for items that didn't need repairing.

The NC Department of Insurance is asking for the community's help in Edgecombe and Nash counties to locate four others who are involved.

Criminal investigators allege the group defrauded the man out of more the $7,400 between May 23 and Oct. 10.

Six of the 11 are also accused of unlawfully presenting themselves as City of Wilson code enforcement officials and misleading the victim that his home was in violation of state building codes.

They also required his payment to be brought into compliance, causing him to write several checks, which were cashed by the suspects.

Department of Insurance investigators worked with banking officials, the NC Office of State Fire Marshal, City of Wilson and the Wilson County Sheriff's Office to identify the defendants and verify that none of them were licensed code enforcement officials.

The following suspects were charged in the scam.

• Heather Roseanne Adcock, 18, of 2853 Abner Drive, Rocky Mount, charged with obtaining property by false pretense.

• Christine Hope Howlett Ezzell, 36, of 449 Tobacco Road, Rocky Mount, charged with four counts of obtaining property by false pretense, exploitation of elder adult and unlawfully acting as a code enforcement official.

• Madison Earl Howlett, 28, of 449 Tobacco Road, Rocky Mount, charged with five counts of obtaining property by false pretense, exploitation of elder adult and unlawfully acting as a code enforcement official.

• Jonathan Taylor O'Neal, 26, of 3633 Hwy. 301, Wilson, charged with four counts of obtaining property by false pretense, exploitation of elder adult and unlawfully acting as a code enforcement official.

• Michael Sidney O'Neal, 24, of 3633 Hwy. 301, Wilson, charged with obtaining property by false pretense.

• Nelson Skinner, II, 38, of 50 Church St., Black Creek, charged with obtaing property by false pretense.

• Andrew Jason Ward, 32, of 3935 Taylor Store Road, Nashville, charged with five counts of obtaining property by false pretense, exploitation of elder adult and unlawfully acting as a code enforcement official.

Law enforcement are also searching for the following suspects.

• Douglas Michael Reason, 28, of 6056 Webbs Lake Road, Elm City, wanted for obtaining property by flase pretense.

• Jon Chase Daniels, 28, of 119 Hariss St., Rocky Mount, wanted for five counts of obtaining property by false pretense, exploitation of an elder adult and unlawfully acting as a code enforcement official.

• Bobbilee Faith Joyner, 26, of 3941 Whitley Circle, Rocky Mount, wanted for obtaining property by false pretense, exploitation of an elder adult and unlawfully acting as a code enforcement official.

• Jeffrey Lane Tyler, 27, of 1029 Compass Creek Drive, Rocky Mount, wanted for obtaining property by false pretense.
