High dollar equipment acquisitions face Tarboro council

TARBORO — More than $750,000 worth of equipment acquisitions will come before the Tarboro Town Council when the body meets at 7 p.m. Monday in the second floor council room at Tarboro Town Hall.

Items up for consideration include a new street sweeper at a cost of $205,271. The sweeper, a Johnston model VT-651 received a proposal from Carolina Industrial Equipment on a piggyback contract with the City of Charlotte. The item was budgeted at $200,000 from Powell Bill funds and the remainder will be appropriated from the General Fund.

Also up for consideration are a Vacuum Jet Rodder for the water and sewer department and a Digger Derrick for the electric department. The jet rodder costs $328,574 and the 50-foot digger derrick costs $216,394.

Earlier, council approved the use of installment financing to make the purchases and Monday’s discussion will focus on approval of financing terms. BB&T came in with the best rate, offering 2.29 percent for 60 months, as did Tax Exempt Leasing Corp. while Providence Bank came in at 2.59 percent. PNC Bank did not submit a proposal.

In other action, the council will  be asked o approve the formation of the Tarboro Main Street Façade Committee and name Dr. Jeroen Vanden Hurk, Sylvia Nash and Maggie Gregg to the committee.
