Wilson woman arrested for stealing lottery tickets

MACCLESFIELD — Edgecombe deputies identified a Wilson woman on surveillance cameras after they received a report from Macclesfield Grocery that she had stolen lottery tickets from there earlier in the day.

The same woman, 32-year-old Lagleesa Tuneane Harris, of 1109 Queen St. E. Apt. A, WIlson, came back to the store later that afternoon and store personnel recognized her, so they contacted the sheriff's department to come back to the store.

According to a press release, a detective, who was in the area, responded to the store and saw Harris actively stealing more lottery tickets from the dispenser, which she had removed from the counter and placed on the floor.

When the detective ordered Harris to stay on the scene so he could question her and conduct his investigation, she resisted his orders and fought with the detective and bystanders who tried to help take her down.

Harris was able to get to her vehicle and attempted to leave the scene. As the detective tried to stop the vehicle and before the vehicle could come to a stop,  Harris struck a bystander with her vehicle, injuring  the bystander's ankle.

Harris was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, simple assault, resisting a public officer, misdemeanor larceny and attempted larceny. She was placed in the Edgecombe County Detention Center under a $255,000 secured bond.

She is due back in court for a probable cause hearing Oct. 23.

While Harris was being jailed, deputies learned she had outstanding warrants in Nash County. She was served with the warrants and additionally charged with failure to appear in court and simple assault where she received an additional $2,000 secured bond.
