A 23-year-old Tarboro man is behind bars in Pitt County after he was accused of smashing a beer bottle over a man's head and punching him in the face in Greenville, because he was angry that the victim was with his mother.
Police arrested Kendrick Lemon Draughn and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to inflict serious injury, which is a felony.
Deputies say they responded to a residence on Wrench Circle, where Draughn's mother reported her son had found the victim, 51-year-old Alton Taylor, with her and became angry about him being there with his mother. Draughn then allegedly hit Taylor over the head with a beer bottle and punched him in the face. Taylor was treated for minor injuries at Vidant Medical Center and released.
Draughn was placed in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $25,000 bond. He is due in court May 2 to face the charges.
This isn't Draughn's first run-in with law enforcement. According to the NC Department of Corrections website, Draughn was convicted in 2009 of felony breaking and entering and received probation and then had his probation revoked and served eight months for the conviction. He has also has been convicted on resisting an officer.
Draughn has court dates pending in Edgecombe County for reckless driving to endanger, two counts of flee elude arrest with motor vehicle, two counts of driving while license revoked and simple possession of schedule VI controlled substance.
