TARBORO — In a joint effort between the Tarboro Police Department and Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office drug task forces, the ongoing fight against drugs continued with the arrest of 13 more suspected drug dealers who allegedly sold drugs to undercover officers. The suspects were charged with a total of 130 drug charges.

In the joint effort between the task forces, officers are working to keep dealers off the streets and are getting the help of the public as, numerous citizens have come forward and helped point out places where the suspected dealers are selling their drugs. That effort from the community has given the officers a boost in the fight.

"Through a continuous combined effort, these agencies are making an impact on the war against illegal narcotics sold in our communities," Tarboro Police Chief Damon Williams said. "The effort made by both agencies set an example that dealing in illegal narcotics will not be tolerated in the Tarboro city limits or in the county."

To date, "Operation Spring Fling" has resulted in the arrest of 55 suspected drug dealers who have allegedly sold drugs to undercover officers or who have been arrested based on tips given to law enforcement.

"Continued community involvement and tips from citizens helps our officers to be more effective in combating those responsible for illegal narcotics sales," said Sheriff James Knight.

The two task forces consist of four officers who work drug enforcement daily.

"The members of the team sacrifice a great deal of their personal life for the type of work they accomplish," Det. Sgt. Bruce Edwards said. "They truly deserve the respect from the community for the job that they do."
