As Friday ended the first week of filing for the May Primary, so far in Edgecombe County only two races are contested — Sheriff and N.C. House of Representative District 23.
Incumbent Sheriff James Knight will be challenged by Allen Dennie, a former Edgecombe County Sheriff Auxiliary officer while Shelly Willingham and Bronson Williams will vie for the House seat. District 23 is currently being held by Joe Tolson who chose not to run.
Another person, Taro Knight, has publicly expressed interest in running for District 23 but has not filed. If Knight files, the District 23 seat could become one of the most interesting races in the Primary.
So far all the candidates for District 23 are Democrats.
Although four seats are on the ballot for Edgecombe County Board of Education, only one person has filed — Marva Scott, director of Edgecombe County Social Services.
