ECU Symphony Orchestra headed to Tarboro for Sunday concert

TARBORO — Classical music will resonate through the Keihin Auditorium at 3 p.m. Sunday as the East Carolina University (ECU) Symphony Orchestra performs under the direction of conductor Jorge Richter. The auditorium is in the Fleming Building on the Tarboro campus of Edgecombe Community College (ECC).

“This group really offers the skill and musicianship of a professional ensemble,” said ECC cultural arts director Eric Greene. The orchestra is comprised mainly of music majors at ECU.

This is the third year the orchestra has performed as part of the Edgecombe Performance Series. Greene said the concert gains more popularity each year. A longstanding favorite in the performance series, the North Carolina Symphony’s Christmastime concert, offers a different type of genre to Tarboro audiences.

“When the North Carolina Symphony comes, generally they’re doing pops numbers. This is really more of a serious classical program, so I think it will appeal to those who enjoy that,” Greene said.
