Two Edgecombe County women were charged with three felony drug charges Wednesday after a search of a vehicle revealed multiple bags of heroin.
Edgecombe County Sheriff's deputies stopped a Mitsubishi Eclipse at the intersection of U.S. 258 North and Shiloh Farm Road.
As deputies proceeded to the vehicle they were given permission to search it by the owner and driver, 40-year-old Pennie Jefferson Deal. Inside the vehicle, deputies also found 20-year-old Allie Logan Claiborne in the passenger seat.
As deputies began searching the vehicle, they uncovered 15 bags of heroin.
Deputies charged Deal, of NC 124 West, Pinetops, and Claiborne, of Deer Walk Road, Tarboro, both with felony possession of heroin, conspiracy to deliver heroin and maintain a vehicle/dwelling place to store controlled substances.
They were both placed in the Edgecombe County Detention Center under a $165,000 secured bond. Both suspects had their first court appearance Thursday.
