Classes through East Carolina University’s Lifelong Learning Program (LLP) are coming to Tarboro and an informational Town Hall meeting from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in the town council chambers, will provide detailed information about the program.
ECU’s LLP and the Town of Tarboro have partnered to being the program, as ECU officials are really pushing to get university programs in the communities of Eastern North Carolina..
Town Planner Josh Edmondson said when university officials learned of Tarboro’s efforts to become a certified retirement community, they were even more interested in partnering.
The program is for adults 50 years and older who want to continue learning in a relaxed atmosphere without entrance requirements, exams or grades.
The LLP offers a wide array of learning opportunities designed to stimulate intellectual and cultural learning, promote social interaction and greater understanding of our world, and broaden horizons in many creative ways.
There are many classes, which vary from technology and social media, to developing communications techniques, retirement, investment, managing medications and more.
The Town Hall informational session is free, but seating is limited.
“I see this as a win-win situation,” Edmondson said. “I hope we have a good turnout at the informational session and the program proves sustainable continues here for years.
