A Tarboro man's scheme to steal food from a local restaurant wasn't carried out according to plans.
Charlie R. Dozier, 52, Lot 69 Mobile Home Estates, allegedly removed the bars from a window at Abram's Barbecue in Tarboro sometime around 3 a.m. Sunday and entered the business. Once inside, the suspect stole a half case of ribs and a case of chicken, according to a Tarboro Police Department news release.
Little did the suspect know that his actions were caught on Abram's video surveillance camera.
After finding the crime, the manager reported the incident to Tarboro Police Department. An investigator reviewed a video and immediately identified Dozier as the culprit. Shortly after investigators reviewed the video, they located Dozier with a black plastic bag that contained raw chicken.
Investigators also found Dozier in possession of drug paraphernalia.
Dozier was charged with breaking and entering, possession of stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed in Edgecombe County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond.
In another, ongoing case, additional charges have been filed against alleged dog trainer James Randall Whitten, 46 while the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Department continue to search for him.
Whitten was charged with another count of obtaining property by false pretense and one additional count of felony larceny. The charges stem from yet another victim who reported their dog having been stolen by Whitten.
Whitten operated a bogus dog training business on N.C. Highway 97. The victims paid for the training in advance. When they went back to check on their dogs, Whitten and the canines had disappeared.
Additional charges were also filed against Whitten's twin sister, Sandra Lee Bryan, and George Etheridge, 77. They were charged with felony possession of stolen property and goods. They were arrested and placed in Edgecombe County Detention Center under a $3,000 secured bond.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Whitten is urged to contact the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office at 252-641-7911.
