The Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Department will partner with McDonald’s and Pizza Hut in Tarboro to sponsor D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Days.
The McDonald's event will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday. Students can buy a 10-piece Nuggets Meal for $3.99. In order to receive the discount, students must wear their school’s D.A.R.E. T-shirts.
The Pizza Hut event will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Students who wear their school’s D.A.R.E. T-shirt will receive a free personal pan pizza.
In another event, the Sheriff's Department will sponsor its 2nd Annual D.A.R.E. Olympics beginning 10 a.m. at the Tarboro High School Athletic Field. Carver, Bulluck, Pattillo, Princeville and Coker-Wimberly Schools’ D.A.R.E. classes will be competing in tug of war, relays and many more.
Edgecombe County Sheriff James Knight, Deputy Cpl. Elwood Whitaker and Daren the D.A.R.E. Lion will be at both sites.
"We would love for families, friends, schools and members of the community to come out and support our children as we continue to provide alternatives to doing drugs," Knight said. "Let’s make it a day out with fun, food and drinks."
