An Edgecombe County man was charged with attempted murder Friday after the suspect had cut the victim at least three times.
On Oct. 11, deputies responded to Red Oak Lane on the Edgecombe County side of Rocky Mount after they had received a call from the victim.
According to a press release from the sheriff's department, when deputies arrived at the residence, they began speaking with the victim and saw he had been cut across the face, arm and abdomen. Deputies learned that 37-year-old Robert Lindsey Woods, of 15 Sunshine Lane, Rocky Mount, had been the alleged suspect who had cut the victim.
The press release stated that the victim told deputies he had gone to Woods' residence to retrieve his daughter's book bag and when Woods answered the door, that's when he began cutting the victim.
The victim was able to get away and retreated to his vehicle. Woods followed him and cut the tires on the vehicle.
When deputies tried to arrest Woods, he pulled away from them. So they had to physically restrain Woods to take him into custody.
He was charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon, injury to personal property and resisting a public officer.
Woods was placed in the Edgecombe County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond.
