Officer charged with DWI

TARBORO — A Williamston police officer resigned from her position two days after she was arrested in Edgecombe County for drunk driving.

Synthia Bowen, who had been on the Williamston Department for just a few months, was arrested on Saturday Nov. 17 after a North Carolina Highway Patrolman observed her run a stop sign on Melton Road, then hit a ditch before coming to rest just a block from U.S. 64 Alternate near Rocky Mount.

Bowen was charged with driving while impaired after her BAC registered .17, more than twice the legal limit of .08.

Bowen resigned from her job in Williamston the following Monday.
