Tarboro to discuss unpaid property taxes


TARBORO — A detailed list of nearly $78,000 in unpaid 2012 real property taxes, included as part of the preliminary report and annual settlement of tax collector is one of the consent  items on Monday night’s agenda of the Tarboro Town Council.

The council will meet at 7 p.m. in the second floor council chambers   at Town Hall. A previous story in The Daily Southern incorrectly gave the time as 6 p.m.

The list of unpaid real property taxes includes 384parcels, including 93 owned by Tarboro Commons, LLC and 24 owned by Tarboro Rentals, LLC. Delinquent  taxes on Tarboro Commons, which includes addresses in the Spencer’s Woods subdivision, total more than $13,000 while delinquent taxes owed by Tarboro Rentals exceed $3,500 according to the report to be provided members of the council.

There are also 140 individuals and businesses delinquent on 2012 personal property taxes. That list totals $34,942.40 and includes Sara Lee Bakery in the amount of $28,022.44. Food Lion 1501 (Western Boulevard) in the amount of $1,798.47 and Food Lion 1394 (St. Andrews) in the amount of $332.14.

In other action Monday, the council will receive a request  from Dr. Paige Temple to designate five parking spaces in front of Tarboro Pediatric Psychology  at 511 St. Andrew St. as one-hour  spaces between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Temple  says parking often is not available for patients or the four psychologists practicing in the building and told council in a letter that the spaces are full all day long.
