Tarboro Police arrest pair for pawn shop robbery

T. J. ROYAL
Staff Writer

Two Edgecombe County men were taken into custody by Tarboro Police Thursday, in connection with an armed robbery of a Rocky Mount pawn shop on Wednesday.

Nigi Kenqua McKenzie, 21, of 625 White Oak Swamp Road in Whitakers, and Alzavion Jaquell Kavon Randolph, 20, of 2230 St. Andrew St. in Tarboro, were each charged by Tarboro with one count each of robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit a robbery with a dangerous weapon and obtaining property by false pretense.

Rocky Mount Police reported that two suspects robbed M & T Pawn Shop in Rocky Mount at gun point around 9:40 a.m. Wednesday. One was armed with a handgun, the other with a shotgun, as they took an undisclosed amount of money and jewelry from the business.

Tarboro Lt. Keith Hale said the suspects sold jewelry to The Gold Store on Main Street in Tarboro on Wednesday and Thursday. After the jewelry sale on Thursday, the store's owner called police, and multiple officers later stopped a white Ford Expedition at The Fountains at The Albemarle early Thursday afternoon.

Hale said police recovered an undisclosed amount of jewelry and money from the vehicle, several of the pieces of jewelry "that still had tags" on them at that time.

Both of the suspects were in the vehicle and were taken to Tarboro's police headquarters and questioned, where Hale said they later confessed to the crimes.

Both were placed in the Edgecombe County Detention Center, with a $2,000 bond on Randolph, a $1,000 bond on McKenzie.
