Students will get a chance to reunite at an event that offers lunch and materials to help them get the school year started off right.

The annual Back to School Bash will be held from noon to 2 p.m. at Indian Lake on Saturday.

The Ebonette Club of Tarboro has been sponsoring of the event for several years and will be providing sponsorship this year.

The event will provide assistance to Edgecombe County students in grades K-8 by preparing them to go back to school on Aug. 25.

The Ebonette Club and the Department of Social Services will be offering students school supplies.

"It's a good project because normally we'll prepare about 500 bags of school supplies," said Ernestine Smith, president of the Ebonette Club.

Representatives from Edgecombe County Public Schools will be in attendance to provide information about the upcoming school year.

Lunch will be provided by Edgecombe County Entrepreneur Organization.

Exceptions will be made if a large number of students from another grade level expresses a need.

"We will service high school students at the individual schools at their request," Smith said.

Giving students the tools they need to gain education is one of the ways that the Ebonette Club tries to help the community.

"We include school supplies as a scholarship because it's giving back to the children," Smith said.

All 24 members of the club will volunteer to provide assistance to the parents and children.

One of the ways that the Ebonette Club funds this event is by sponsoring the Little Miss Ebonette Pageant every other year for girls 5-10 years old.

The pageant gives the club the necessary means to provide scholarships to students for post secondary education. More than $10,000 in scholarships was awarded to the Class of 2008.
