Hagan will visit with veterans

FROM STAFF REPORTS

U.S. Senate candidate Kay Hagan will visit Tarboro again next month to meet with local veterans.

Hagan’s husband is a Vietnam veteran, and two of her nephews are in the military. The Democrat has previously hosted similar events with veterans in Greensboro and Cary.

Hagan will speak about the military at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 1 at The Fountains at The Albemarle at 10:30 a.m. All veterans are invited to share their concerns.

Today, Hagan is visiting an American Legion post in Charlotte before traveling to Raeford for a campaign event with Hoke County Sheriff Hubert Peterkin.

Both Hagan and Republican Sen. Elizabeth Dole have supported increased funding for veterans’ health care and benefits, including money for mental health.

Hagan, a state senator from Greensboro, campaigned here April 15 before the primary election and also was in town June 6 for the annual Pops on the Common concert.

Hagan, 53, worked with Nations Bank for 10 years after graduation from Wake Forest Law School and has chaired the state Senate Budget Committee.
