Witherspoon: ‘No news’ on job in S.C.

— Edgecombe County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Craig Witherspoon said Monday that he had heard "no news" about the superintendent position with the Richland One school system in Columbia, S.C.
Witherspoon, 42, attended a public forum last Tuesday in Columbia about the position. The other two candidates for the job, Gerald Dawkins, superintendent of Saginaw, Mich., public schools, Percy Mack, superintendent of Dayton, Ohio, public schools, were also in attendance.
Although the Richland One school board will meet this evening, Communications Director Karen York said she did not know when the board would make their decision about the vacancy.
York said the board's overall goal "is for the new superintendent to start and be on the job" by July 1.
