Tar River Boys to visit library

— Appearing at Edgecombe County Public Library Children’s Department Friday morning will be the Tar River Boys, a local bluegrass band.
The Tar River Boys have been together in various forms for more than 35 years and have been featured in articles appearing in “Bluegrass Unlimited” and “Mother Earth News” and played during President George Bush’s visit to Greenville in 2001.
The band plays various forms of bluegrass from traditional to contemporary. The band will appear at 10 a.m. Friday at Edgecombe County Memorial Library
Funding for this program was received from the Edgecombe County Cultural Arts Council through the Grassroots Arts Program of the NC Arts Council, a state agency.
Bluegrass music is a native form of American folk music and as home grown stylistically as apple pie.
With a distinctive style and beat, it has influenced later forms of music, such as rock and roll, rhythm and blues, and jazz. Its vibrant format, lively finger picking and long history within our country guarantee a broad appeal to Americans.
