Winslow/Grimes
Mary Sterling Winslow and John Rodgers Grimes III were united in marriage at five o'clock Saturday, May 31 at Nahalah Presbyterian Church in Scotland Neck. The Reverend Page Davis Creach performed the double ring ceremony. A reception was held on the front lawn of the bride's parents home in Oak City.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abner Thomas Winslow, junior of Oak City. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Abner Thomas Winslow of Oak City, and Mrs. Robert Poe Jones and the late Mr. Jones of Henderson.
Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. John Rodgers Grimes, junior of Battleboro. He is the grandson of Mrs. John Rodgers Grimes of Battleboro and the late Mr. Grimes, and Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Jackson Warmack of Rich Square.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of candlelight satin and re-embroidered alencon lace, designed and worn by her mother. It featured a scalloped empire bodice fashioned of lace with a Queen Ann neckline and fitted sleeves. The fingertip veil of ivory silk illusion was bordered with matching lace. Her bouquet consisted of green and cream hydrangeas with ivy accents.
Sarah Elizabeth Parker of Greensboro the bride's cousin was the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Laura McNeill of Raleigh, Catherine Jones of Myrtle Beach, SC, Jessica Klein and Kelly Martin of Raleigh, and Mary Beth Stutts of Mooresville.
John Rodgers Grimes, junior was his son’s best man. Serving as groomsmen were Jeffrey Bell of Chapel Hill; Nathan Dilday of Ahoskie; Travis Grimes, brother of the groom and Paul Hale, both of Raleigh and Whichard Winslow, brother of the bride, of Oak City.
The wedding was directed by Mrs. Lorraine Dickens of Scotland Neck. Presiding over the register were Mary and Sarah Rawls of Oak City. Music was provided by Anison Kirkland, organist; Kelly Martin, violinist; and Kimberly Moore, cousin of the bride, soloist. Scripture was read by Whichard Winslow.
Following a wedding trip to the Riviera Maya on the Mexican Caribbean coast, the couple will reside in Rocky Mount.
The bride graduated from Meredith College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications. She received her Master of Science degree in Organizational Communications from North Carolina State University. She is employed as a Physician Relations Representative with Rex HealthCare in Raleigh.
The groom graduated from North Carolina State University with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Field Crops Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy. He is a farmer in Edgecombe County.
The wedding weekend started Thursday with a picnic supper at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Copeland. The rehearsal dinner, hosted by the groom's parents and grandmother, was held at Sylvan Heights Waterfowl Park in Scotland Neck followed by a rehearsal party given by friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Josey. A wedding day brunch, also given by friends was held at the home of The Honorable and Mrs. Harold P. McCoy, Jr.
