    To the Editor:
I am writing out of concern about disc golf. We as a town need to consider projects that have been given to (parks and recreation director) Cheryl Gay before this disc golf came along — like a walking trail at Clark Park, repairing the bathrooms, making sure the playground equipment is up-to-date and finding out what happen to the lights on the baseball field before we find money for disc golf. The town needs to consider what we been discussing in these last couple of meetings about recreation. I would love to see the Clark Park baseball field turned into a kickball field, which is a sport that everybody knows how to play, before you consider disc golf.

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR

    To the Editor:
Monday night at the Town Council meeting (Aug. 12, 2013), I witnessed some the most disruptive, vitriolic and asinine behavior that I’ve ever seen, in the person of (Ward 8) councilman Garland Shepheard.  For several months, his behavior has grown progressively worse and it seems to embolden him to waste my time, the time of the other council members and the time of other citizens who care enough about Tarboro to attend council meetings.

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR

    To the Editor:
Tarboro is a wonderful town to live in, full of welcoming folks, and a beautiful Town
Common and historical district and the charm of a rebuilding downtown.  There is a lot to  be proud of when we tell folks we are from Tarboro.  However, there is one segment of,the population that is being neglected and horribly abused and that is the plight of our cats, kittens, dogs and puppies.  There are so many calls being made to the different  groups that try to serve this disadvantaged population that each is overwhelmed.

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR

    To the Editor:
This is in response to an editorial from Greenville's Daily Reflector in the July 5 Tarboro Southerner entitled "Hands Off Community Water Systems".
I agree with the Reflector's view that the state legislature is overreaching with a progressive bill (HB 488) where it proposes to seize control of local water systems and services without compensation, and puts it under control of an unelected state board. I'm opposed to unelected regional governmental authorities. As one who campaigned for two freshmen House members in Pitt County, it is very disappointing that the present state legislature would be doing such a thing.

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR

    To the Editor:
I would like to express a sincere thank you to all who made the America in Bloom (AIB) experience a success.  The community involvement was impressive, including an active Steering Committee, volunteers who labored to complete projects, and support from the Town of Tarboro.  Generous donations from individuals, businesses and civic groups made it possible to implement projects, such as Courthouse Square.  Historic district residents graciously opened their homes for housing and dining the judges during their stay.

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR

    To the Editor:
My name is Trey Lancaster and I’m a rising eighth grader at C. B. Martin Middle School (MMS). I’m writing to give you my perspective on my school and my hopes for the future. It seems like people are always talking about the negatives and problems at our schools without pointing out the good things. As a student, I can tell you there are plenty of positive things happening and students like me think things can improve even more with help from our community.

    To the Editor;
    What are you (ECC) thinking?
ECC teaching how to drink wine? Which is alcohol. ECC Foundation selling alcoholic drinks. Children will be there looking and learning. They are good music bands for a good cause, leave the alcohol out and all of its side effects.
    What are you thinking?
Wonder how long before it will be taught in Public Schools. Would it not be better for everyone to teach abstinence?
What about it Mother's Against Drunk Driving? What do you think?
    What are we thinking?
