In last week’s paper there was an article about bicycling. I think first of all the general public needs to be educated about the rights of bicyclists and sharing the road.
Most motorists do not recognize anyone on a bicycle, nor do they respect them.
I enjoy riding my bike, as it is good exercise. Just this past Saturday I was almost ran off the road three times by rude, disrespectful motorists, even when in the bike lane with no one coming in the opposite direction. It seems to be a game to see how close they can get to you. One came so close to me, if I even wobbled one inch, I would have been hit and there was no one coming in the opposite lane. I have had to slam on brakes to avoid motorists pulling out of side roads and driveways.
One of these days someone is going to be seriously hurt because of no respect for person on bicycles.
On the other hand, anyone riding a bicycle should know the rules of riding with traffic and authorities should enforce those rules with verbal warnings. Is it too much to ask for just a little respect?
