THE DAILY SOUTHERNER
Greeting Ward 3 and Tarboro Citizens:
I want to take this time to introduce myself to some and present myself to others. My name is Leshaun Jenkins, a candidate for Tarboro Town Council Ward 3.
I am running for Ward 3 Council seat because I believe that my experience and love for the town will be beneficial to improve the economic and social welfare of Tarboro.
I have spent the past 13 years teaching History at Tarboro High School teaching US History, World History, and Civics and Economics. For my dedication in the classroom I have received numerous accolades including twice been honored as Tarboro High School Teacher of the Year and the Yearbook was dedicated to me in 2005 and most recently in 2013.
Growing up in Edgecombe County, I have defied many of the odds that were stacked up against me to become one of the county's most notable teachers. I didn't do it alone. There were several people who helped me along the way. Now I must pay it forward.
For me, teaching is not a job. It is my way of paying it forward. I've taken the same concept and applied it during my tenure as a coach for the JV boys basketball, varsity boys basketball, varsity boys tennis. I am currently the varsity boys and girls soccer coach. My most proudest moment as a coach was not winning a championship or even a game. It was looking into the eyes of some of my past players who said, "Thank you for all you have done." That let me know that I have given back to society.
Now, I would like to give back in another arena by becoming Ward 3 Councilman.
As an East Carolina University graduate and veteran teacher, I understand LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE. I have committed my entire adult life to serving, mentoring, shaping, and molding not only children in this community, but young adults alike.
When elected to Tarboro’s Town Council, my purpose will be no difference. I believe that every citizen in Ward 3 (and Tarboro) deserves formidable leadership and representation. I will always carry the message of the residents in my ward. Never will it be about me or my agenda, but about the needs and concerns of my Ward 3 residents.
There are residents in Ward 3 who need a loud and clear voice. There are senior citizens who need to be cared for, accounted for, and properly represented. There are children who need opportunities for personal development so they too can contribute to our town in a positive manner. As a town, we need sound leadership who will address economic issues, social issues, as well as issues that impact our community’s development. If given this wonderful opportunity to serve YOU the citizens of Ward 3 and Tarboro, you will not regret your decision, and that is a promise.
I am willing, ready, and able to serve you as your Ward 3 City Councilman. Together we can enhance the quality of life for ALL Ward 3 residents which will only strengthen our great Town of Tarboro as a whole.
Leshaun T. Jenkins
