TARBORO — To The Editor:

Yes, I voted “no” to extending the town manager’s contract as stated in the news article and “yes,” town manager Alan Thornton was correct when he said I did not get the answers I wanted to some of the questions. Some of the questions and answers are as follows:

Question: Has Spencer Woods Subdivision paid taxes for FY:2011-2012 or 2012-2013? If not, why not? Answer: Everyone owning real property in Tarboro who is not tax exempt is billed for property taxes.

Question: A mini-excavator is budgeted at $18,000 from Powell Bill funds and later $18,000 from the Water and Sewer Fund for a total of $36,000. It is my understanding that the town presently owns a full-size excavator and several backhoes, why do we need a mini-excavator? Have we ever had one?

The firstanswer to this question: Mini-Excavator is to be utilized for work on sidewalks and rights of ways. Staff is only seeking one excavator at $18,000. Guess what? The next answer I received stated the one mini-excavator is actually $36,000. Ask yourself if you would be happy with these answers.

I can't include everything, but if you would like further information please e-mail me at If you know of anything we can do to improve our town please contact me at the same e-mail address.

I have been told by Mrs.

Owens that I am tending to town business. Isn't that exactly what the council should be doing?
