TARBORO — To the Editor:

Cotton’s announced closing Dec. 31, brings to memory the many Tarboro businesses that played a major role in the lives of Tarboroians. Here are those I have a fond memory of, having first arrived in Tarboro in 1927: Hart Cotton Mill, Carolina Telephone & Telegraph, Runnymede Mill, W.S. Clark and Sons, Sugar’s Department Store, Bass Memorial Hospital, Rosenbaum’s, Colonial and Majestic Theaters, Edgecombe Bank & Trust, Wooten’s BBQ, Clark Tobacco Warehouses, Zoeller’s Drug Store, Farrar Hotel aka Tarboro Hotel, Dixie Cafe’, Rose’s (I have their soda fountain), Long Mfg. Co., Hollywood Drive In and Leyton White’s Pool Room.

Your readers can certainly add to this list, but I am sure they will all agree that Cotton’s, just might be, the only one with a soul.
