Low-Income Engergy Assistance


The Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) gives families a one-time vendor payment to help pay their heating bills. Applications will be taken for disabled persons receiving a service through the Division of Aging and Adult Services or for households with a member age 60 and older. For application sites in

Rocky Mt. call 985-5053, for Tarboro sites call 641-7637.

Meeting has been moved to Jan. 24th.



Happy Senior Citizens Club

Will be sponsoring Gift Bingo on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month from 7-9pm at the E.L. Roberson Center.



Juvenile Crime Prevention

The Edgecombe and Nash County Councils meet at 9am at the East Carolina Ag & Education Center in Rocky Mt.  The public is invited to attend. For more information call 827-5058.



Hearing Assistance

Karen Caputo from the NC Deaf  and Hard of Hearing will be at the E.L. Roberson Center to discuss services offered. At 9:30am. You must register. Call 1-800-999-6828.

Day Trip Titanic Exhibit


The E. L.  Roberson Center is hosting a trip to Raleigh to see the Titanic Exhibit. Leave at  8:30am return around 3:30pm. You will need to bring a packed lunch; we will tour the capital and legislative bldgs. Cost is $15, which includes your ticket for the Titanic Exhibit and transportation. Call 641-4263.

Commemorative Banquet at 6pm at ECC, Mobley Atrium Bldg., Speaker - Reverend James D. Gailliard, Word Tabernacle Church, Rocky Mt.

21st Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Concert


At the House of Resurrection, 120 S. King St., Whitakers. 4pm. Featuring Youth and Gospel Choirs from Whitakers, Battleboro, and Enfield area.

25th Annual Unity Breakfast


The Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Dunn Center with Civil Rights Attorney and CNN Legal Analyst, Avery Friedman, as the guest speaker. The breakfast will begin at 7am and the program will start at 8am. For more information call 972-1181.



16th Annual MLK Community Empowerment Breakfast

At the Franklinton  Center at Bricks, US 301 North, Whitakers. 7:30am. Speaker: Ms. Esterine Pitt, Mayor of Whitakers.



Commemorative March

23rd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative March at 10am, at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church to St. Luke Church of Christ in Princeville.



Lunch with the King

From 11:30-1pm at St. Luke Church of Christ in Princeville.



Edgecombe County Landfill

Will be closed in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Birthday. All recycling centers will be open.



15th Annual Whitakers MLK Day Motorcade & March

Starting at 9:30am at Whitakers Town Park, NW Railroad St., ends at Bloomer Hill  Community Center.

23rd Annual Martin Luther King Day Celebration

At 11am. Bloomer Hill Community Center, US 301, Whitakers. Featuring via Television, The Inauguration of President Barack Obama. Music by Mann’s Chapel AME Youth Choir. Lunch, then “Workers Rights Are Human Rights”.

This is the last day to register for a 10 week  Information Session to learn more about being a leader in your community.  Sponsored through the Down East Partnership for children. George Henry White Day Program

At 11am at the Edgecombe County Administrative Bldg., 201St. Andrew St., Tarboro. A panel of 5 historians will share insights of White’s role in history. Sponsored by the Phoenix Historical Society,  Inc. in partnership with the Benjamin & Edith Spaulding Descendents Foundation, Inc.
