Public Works Week

Please recognize our Pulbic Works Employees during this week  with our Annual Public Works Equipment Show, to be held at the Environmental Services Complex located at 1221 Thorpe Road in Rocky Mt., from 4-6pm.

Flushing Hydrants

The Tarboro Fire Dept. will be flushing hydrants Saturday and Sunday, North of St. James St and West of Western Blvd. If you experience  any water problems call 641-4288, 641-4297, or 641-4247.

2012 Conetoe High School Alumni Association Reunion

All former students 1948-1971. Saturday and Sunda, Memorial weekend. Fees are due by May 13th. Church Service will be held at Conetoe Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Service begins at 11am.

The Edgecombe County Solid Waste will be closed in observance of Memorial Day. Edgecombe County Recycling Centers will be open.

Spring Family Cookout

The Kwanis Club and the Golden K Kiwanis Club will meet at the clubhouse at Indian Lake for the annual Family Cookout at about 5:50pm. Families and guest are invited.

iPad Class

Golden Kiwanis

Meets at the E.L.  Roberson Center at 9:45am. The speaker is Mr. John D. Farrelly, Edgecombe County Superintendent of Schools.

NC Symphony

Will present “Pops on the Common” at 7:30pm. Grant Llewellyn will conduct. Rain location:  Keihan ECC campus. Bring a picnic dinner and enjoy this FREE concert.


“Keep The Lights On”

2nd Annual Poker Run by American Legion Riders Post 19. Proceeds are used for the Veteran’s Memorial on US 258 South.

Eason Tiney American Legion Post 19

Meeting at 8am at Abrams Restaurant, 609 W.  Wilson St., Tarboro. Breakfast then a Quick Business Meeting at 8:45am.

Paddle The Tar River

Ages 8 and up. $35 includes either kayak or canoe with life vest. Meet at the E.L. Roberson Center. For more information call 641-4276.


Biking Club

The Tarboro Travelers Biking Club will be having an Evening Bike Ride every Sunday night from 5-7pm. The ride will begin at the Braswell Center. Come one, come all. No one will be left behind. The ride is for beginners, average, and experienced rides.


Six Sigma Class

An 8-week Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Class begins on the Tarboro campus of ECC. Class meets 8:30am-4:30pm on Tuesdays. Cost is $430-$100 for certification. Contact 823-5166, ext. 197 or email andersong@edgecombe. edu.


Happy Senior Citizens Club

Sponsoring gift bingo on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month from 7-9pm at the E.L. Roberson Center.


Southern Architecture

A two-weekend class begins on the Tarboro campus of ECC. Class meets from 8am-5pm, June 9-10, and June 16-17. Fee is $120.  Call 823-5166, ext. 241.

Community Pool

Water aerobics will be held June 11th-August 17th, Monday-Friday.  There will be a deep water class from 9:30-10:15am  and a low impact class from 10:15-11:00am.  Cost will be $30 for the summer (includes both classes) for city residents.

Dinner Barn Theater

The E.L. Roberson Center is sponsoring a trip the Dinner Barn Theater on Aug. 21at to see the show “Smoke on the Mountain”. Seating time is at 1pm.  We will  leave at 9am. Cost is $81. Includes bus, buffet lunch and gratuity. Register and pay a $35 deposit. final payment due by July 29th.

Volunteers Needed

Clean up Vines Cemetery located outside Pinetops. Highway 42/43 past Hill Top Mobile Home on the left. Donations greatly needed. First person buried there was in 1813. May 12th at 7am. Contact Person is Carolyn Hussey Travers at 641-1770, or 469-6197.

Photo Fund Drive

The Edgecombe County Rescue Squad is having their yearly fund drive starting April 1st.

   The E.L. Roberson Center is hosting a 3 day 2 night trip June 13-15. Wish-granting volunteers are needed for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Eastern North Carolina. Wish grantors visit the family and help determine the wish of the child while explaining wish procedures and using their creative side to make the wish truly magical. Project GRACE

A consortium of community organizations and individuals committed to preventing HIV/AIDS in Edgecombe and Nash counties. We are looking for African American youth between the ages of 10 and 14 and their adult caregivers to participate in a research study to help them talk  more about risky sex behaviors and how to say no.
