Pamela Little, dean of students at Edgecombe Community College, recently received the Award for Outstanding Counselor presented by the Counseling Division of the N.C. Community College Student Development and Personnel Association (N3CSDPA).

The conference was held in Raleigh March 31-April 2.

The Outstanding Counselor Award is a tribute to community college counselors. A recipient is selected annually who exemplifies the counseling practices and principles that guide the Counseling Division of N3CSDPA.

Dean Little has worked at ECC for two years. Previously, she was associate director of student services for the N.C. Community College System (NCCCS). She also has served as a counselor at other community colleges in the state.

As dean of students at ECC, Little has implemented new programs and activities for students. When she worked for the NCCCS, she served as the state trustee for the N.C. Comprehensive Community Colleges Student Government Association.

Additionally, Little was the program designer for the NCCCS Minority Male Mentoring Initiative to address retention among minority male students. She was responsible for locating and administering the initial funding of $198,000 from the Governor’s Crime Commission.

This initiative has served as a model for minority male mentoring programs at community colleges across the state, including the program at ECC.

Little received a B.S. degree in history and an M.A. degree in guidance and counseling from North Carolina A&T State University.
