The Edgecombe Event Center at 1800 Western Blvd. will host a holiday extravaganza – “Stuff Your Stocking Gift Show” – Saturday and Sunday. The show will be open to shoppers from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
“We’ve got a lot of good vendors. We’re hoping that Tarboro and the community supports it,” said Jessie Thorne. The Thorne Family owns the event center.
Thorne said about 27 “upper-end” vendors from the Eastern North Carolina region will participate in the show. Among the vendors are Lindt Chocolates, Augustus & Argyle of Rocky Mount, and Rusty’s Gifts of Tarboro. Rusty’s will offer up its famous peanut brittle and gift items, while Augustus & Argyle will offer shoppers children’s clothing and monogrammed items. Other gift items awaiting shoppers are jewelry, sterling goods, old-fashioned holiday candy, handbags and homemade candles.
Non-profit groups will add to the variety at the show. Included among them are Relay for Life, selling jewelry to support the American Cancer Society, and the Pilot Club of Tarboro, selling memorial lights to be placed on the Community Christmas Tree on the Town Common.
Thorne said one of the goals of the first-time show is to bring outside vendors to Tarboro to “see what we have to offer here.”
“We really hope to make this an annual event,” she said.
During the summer, the Thornes – Jessie and husband Tom and son Trey and wife Julie – purchased the former Stacks Restaurant building and began renovations to transform it into an events center. Since then, Thorne said she has been astounded by the number of people who have shown interest in renting the facility for family reunions, receptions and meetings.
The atmosphere of the center changes according to the event being held there, and this weekend, Thorne said it will be “really festive” to welcome holiday shoppers.
