A foot chase that covered over two square miles in Tarboro Sunday, resulted in the suspect being apprehended by the Tarboro police with the help of Sgt. Jesse Webb and his K9 Bullitt.
Patrolman Ryan Jordan was sitting on Wilson Street near Edgecombe Community College when he clocked a driver traveling 63 miles per hour in a 45 zone. Jordan tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued towards Tarboro and turned right onto Benson Drive where he exited the vehicle and took off running. Jordan gave chase, but lost sight of the suspect behind some houses on Benson Drive. Jordan called for assistance and a K9. Bullitt tracked the suspect's scent through a wooded area behind Pender Square Apartments. Bullitt stayed with the scent and ended up tracking through the swampy area behind State Employees Credit Union.
As officers and Bullitt continued to search, they found the suspect, 24-year old Rodney Terrel Horne, of 7119 Williford Road, Rocky Mount, at the bottom of the hill between Dollar General and the credit union on Western Boulevard.
Cpl. Mike Browning saw Horne and dragged him back up the hill as he took him into custody.
Jordan had a K9 from the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Department help with the search of Horne's vehicle. The backseat had been tampered with while the chase was in progress according to the report. The K9 alerted under the backseat of the vehicle, but officers didn't find anything.
Jordan ran Horne's criminal history and learned he had just been placed on probation Aug. 13 after he was convicted in Wilson County for possession with the intent to sell and deliver cocaine.
According to the report, Horne's driver's license was suspended for 12 months as part of the judgement by the presiding judge in the case.
Jordan also contacted Horne's probation officer to let him know about the charges he was facing.
Horne was charged with speeding and resist obstruct delay a public officer. He was placed in the Edgecombe County Detention Center under a $3,500 secured bond.
Horne also has more cocaine charges pending against him in Wilson County for possession with the intent to sell and deliver cocaine and felony possession of cocaine.
