ECPS retirement banquet

TARBORO — Edgecombe County Public Schools (ECPS) honored the retirees from the 2012-2013 school year Thursday evening during the annual ECPS Retirement Banquet held in the Mobley Atrium at Edgecombe Community College.

The evening began with Superintendent John Farrelly welcoming the crowd of 100 retirees, special guests, ECPS administrators and board members.

Following Farrelly’s welcome, Board of Education Chair Ann Kent addressed the group and thanked them for their years of service, before encouraging the retirees to enjoy their retirement and embrace the newfound free time they’ll have.

After their meal, Farrelly spoke to the group about finding joy in little moments, quoting an excerpt from Sharon M. Draper’s book “Not Quite Burned out but Crispy around the Edges” that described how moments such as watching a student truly understand what he/she is learning or getting a hug that can turn any day around. He went on to tell the group of retiring educators, custodians and cafeteria workers that he hopes each of them finds joy in retirement.

Each retiree was then recognized as Lauren Edmondson, ECPS Communications & Community Relations Coordinator, read information about what the educators said they would miss the most about their time at ECPS, how they plan on spending retirement or what their most memorable moment was in their career. The retirees with 25 years of service or more were gifted with a clock engraved with their name and years of service, while those with less than 25 years were given an engraved frame.

Below is a list of the retirees from ECPS for the 2012-2013 school year:
