Tarboro wins award for excellence in financial reporting

TARBORO — An Award of Financial Reporting Achievement has been awarded to Town of Tarboro Finance Director Karla McCall.  The comprehensive annual finance report (CAFR) was judged by a panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

Tarboro has been a consistent winner of the award since 1990.

The award was presented by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).  The GFOA established CAFR in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.

The GFOA is a professional organization of public officials united to enhance and promote the professional management of governmental financial resources by identifying, developing and advancing fiscal strategies, policies, and practices for the public benefit.

The certificate of achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

The report is available for viewing at the Town of Tarboro website under the Finance Department at
