FOR THE DAILY SOUTHERNER
Donita Gregory will begin her new role as principal of West Edgecombe Middle School on Monday. The Edgecombe County Board of Education selected Gregory as the school’s new principal at its Monday evening meeting.
“I am extremely pleased to have Ms. Gregory join the Edgecombe County Public Schools (ECPS) leadership team,” said Superintendent John Farrelly. “Ms. Gregory was an outstanding Exceptional Children’s teacher prior to beginning her administrative career in 2007. She has all of the qualities I look for in an instructional leader. I am looking forward to the exemplary leadership she will provide the West Edgecombe School Community. Ms. Gregory is from the area and has relatives in our county; she is excited about coming home and leading West Edgecombe Middle School.”
Gregory comes to ECPS with five years of experience in school administration. Her most recent position was in Union County Public Schools, where she has served as an assistant principal since 2007. Prior to being named an assistant principal there, she held supervisory Exceptional Children’s Program roles in both Charlotte Mecklenburg and Durham County Public Schools. Gregory began her career in education, having taught for five years in Durham County Schools as an Exceptional Children’s teacher.
Gregory holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an advanced degree from Capella University and a bachelor’s degree from Elizabeth City State University.
