ECC instructors earn Core Instructional Credential - Silver Certificate

TARBORO — Five instructors in College and Career Readiness at Edgecombe Community College (ECC) recently received the Core Instructional Credential - Silver Certificate from the North Carolina Community College System.

This professional development training is part of a national effort to improve the quality of instruction for Basic Skills students. Basic Skills includes the GED, Adult High School, Adult Basic Education, and English as a Second Language.

ECC instructors who received the credential are Varnell Kinnin, Katrina Sessoms, Theresa Stokes, LaShawnda Washington, and Susie Wiggins. This marks the first time this type of credential has been offered.

Instructors at 15 North Carolina community colleges completed the training, and ECC was one of only four colleges that had five instructors completing the program.

ECC and other Silver Certificate recipients were honored during an Aug. 5 banquet held at NC State University's McKimmon Conference and Training Center. The banquet also kicked off the Basic Skills Conference and
