Vidant Edgecombe Hospital to host health and wellness fair

TARBORO — Vidant Edgecombe Hospital and Vidant Multispecialty Clinic-Tarboro are partnering to host a free health and wellness fair from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday on the hospital’s grounds.

“We are geared up and ready for Saturday’s health and wellness fair at the hospital,” said Erin Grimsley, director of marketing, business development and gifts for Vidant Edgecombe Hospital.

“Cancer care and prevention are extremely important to us here at Vidant Edgecombe, and this is one of many events that we host throughout the year to try to push early detection in our community. We all lead busy lives and, sometimes, we neglect our own health even as we’re busy taking care of the people around us.”

The fair will include free men’s prostate screenings, free clinical breast exams, blood pressure checks and other health screenings. Attendees at the fair will not only learn about early detection but will also have an opportunity to try cancer-fighting foods.

Exhibits will be set up, with representatives from health and wellness organizations offering information to attendees. Among the local organizations that will be in attendance are OIC Family Medical Center, North Carolina Cooperative Extension, B&G Fitness, the Edgecombe County Health Department and My Sister’s House.

Men planning to have a prostate screening are asked to register in advance by calling 1-800-472-8500 or  HYPERLINK "http://www.vidanthealth/prostatescreening" www.vidanthealth/prostatescreening.
