Celestial sounds Sunday afternoon at Keihin Auditorium ECC

TARBORO — Celestial sounds will echo through Keihin Auditorium at Edgecombe Community College Sunday afternoon, as gospel singers give praise to their Heavenly Father.

The concert is a 19th anniversary celebration of George Dickens and The Gospel Disciples of Oak City.

“We want to encourage people to keep believing in Christ and for those who don’t know him to get a chance to meet and have a relationship with him through our songs,” said George Dickens Jr., group member. The family gospel group plans to sing new songs on their 2013 album, including “Pray More,” “Back Home,” and the ballad “You’ve Been So Good.”

Dickens said the group also plans to sing a few “fan favorites,” including “He’s All I Need,” “I Never Gave Up,” and one of his favorite songs, “Weeping.” The song is based on a Bible verse, Psalm 30:5; “…Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning” (King James Version).

The gospel show will also feature Keith Wonderboy & The Spiritual Voices, The Original Supreme Angels, The New Creation, Gospel Impressions and Brother David Dickens. Gospel comedian J. Marcel of Tarboro will add to the entertainment at Sunday’s show.

Keith “Wonderboy” Johnson, lead singer for Keith Wonderboy & The Spiritual Voices, said he looks forward to traveling from his Brooklyn, N. Y.  home to Edgecombe County as a special guest in the gospel show. Johnson will sing his rendition of “Let Go and Let God” and collaborate with Dickens on Dickens’ original song entitled “I Made It,” which talks about “going through trials and tribulations.” Dickens and his group often collaborate with Johnson. Both are family groups that spread a spiritual message through their music.

“Jesus is the answer,” said Johnson.

Doors open at 4 p.m. and the service will start at 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Children under the age of 12 will be admitted for $5.

Advance tickets can be purchased at Master’s Touch Barber Shop, WCPS Radio Station and Hair Gallery. For other ticket locations, call 813-4173.
