“A lifetime opportunity.”
Those are the words Fay Smith uses to describe the annual College Round-Up, an event that brings recruiters from colleges and universities from all over the East Coast to Tarboro to help high-school students in pursuit of a higher education.
“My goal is that every senior that attends the event gets admitted into college with a scholarship,” said Smith, event coordinator.
The 13th Annual College Round-Up is set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 8 on the Tarboro campus of Edgecombe Community College. Smith said 862 students attended last year’s Round-Up, and about half of the seniors who applied to college were admitted that day. Others were admitted at a later date.
Twenty-five colleges and universities have confirmed their attendance, and Smith expects that number to increase as the event draws near. Many colleges waive their admission fees at the Round-Up, Smith said. She advised students to bring copies of their transcripts and SAT scores to the event.
N.C. Sen. Angela Bryant is the guest speaker for the Round-Up.
