Edgecombe Garden Club honors members

TARBORO — The Edgecombe Garden Club met May 1 for their noon luncheon at the Fountains of the Albemarle. After President Pauline Nicolosi greeted everyone, Sandra Joyner, Devotion Chairman, read “Torch” which was about our tongues torching good or evil.

Hostess Barbara Getzug described her specially designed flower arrangement of mock orange, snowball, purple columbine, and many varieties of roses. President Pauline, Hostesses Gloria Wall and Louise Fleming did the table arrangements.  They contained wiegelia, azalea, ivy, mock orange, and ligustrum.

The Edgecombe Garden Committee Chairs selected Barbara Campbell Davis for the Grace McBryde Award because she has made outstanding contributions as a new member. Gloria Wall presented this award.

The Executive Board recognized Dee Long for the Club’s Service Award for her continued support and services and Lynn Brady for the John Chapman Award for exceling in horticulture.  Maryann Rettino presented Dee’s award. Carol Paluch presented Lynn’s award.

The total membership selected President Pauline Nicolosi as their Woman of the Year because of her outstanding achievements in garden club work.  Sandra Wooten presented her with a silver bowl for this award.

Bake Sale Chairman, Barbara Getzug, announced the Club will have a Bake Sale on May 18, 10-5:00 P. M. at Tarboro’s “Happenings on the Common.”   There will be whole cakes and pies with some sliced servings of each and additional items like chocolate covered pretzel sticks and popsicle cakes.  

Sandra Redhage will be the new Club’s Treasurer.  New Yard of the Season Committee Co-Chairman are Marilyn Douglass and Shirley Wainwright.  Recent Yard of the Season winners are for: (1) business, The Fountains and (2) for a residence, Whitley Carlisle’s home on Trade and Church Streets.

Sandra Wooten, Chairman of the Edgecombe Garden Club $500 Raffle Fund Raiser, announced Ronnie Ellis won the $500. Member Marilyn Douglass sold the most tickets and Catherine Powers-Moseley sold the next high number.

President Pauline and Marilyn Douglass attended the recent North Carolina Garden Club Convention in Wilmington. President Pauline announced the Hillsborough Spring Garden Tour will be Saturday, May 11, 10-5:00 P. M. and Sunday, May 12, 1-5:00 P.M. The cost is $15 but for children under 12, it’s free.  Call 919-732-7741 for more information.

Candis Owens announced Lynn Brady will serve on the Blount Bridgers Gardens Committee.
