Tarboro Savings Bank gives to Meals on Wheels

TARBORO — Ann Winstead (left), president of Tarboro Savings Bank, presents Barbara Barnes of Meals on Wheels with a $500 donation to help fund the organization’s efforts to feed shut-ins. “Tarboro Savings Bank is committed to assisting our neighbors in Edgecombe County through contributions and donations to community projects such as Meals on Wheels,” Winstead said,. SBarnes aid the bank’s donation would provide lunchtime meals for elderly shut-ins of Edgecombe County. Volunteers deliver meals to 40-45 shut-ins every weekday. To qualify for the meals program, recipients must be 60 years of age or older, incapable of driving, and live alone or with someone equally incapable of food preparation. The Meals on Wheels program receives support from the United Way, civic clubs, businesses, private donations and memorials. Each client also pays a portion of the meals expenses. The Meals on Wheels program has been actively serving the community since 1983. (Staff photo/Miranda Baines)
