February is heart health month. Edgecombe County Human Services and Vidant Edgecombe Hospital have events planned around that topic.
The first planned event is a heart health “Community Exchange” set for 10 to 11 a.m. Friday. That event will be held in the first-floor conference/ meeting room in the human services building. Friday is National Wear Red Day, and attendees are asked to wear red in honor of heart health.
“What we’re trying to do is have an exchange where we can let people know about a different health issue each quarter,” said health promotion coordinator Derrick Haskins. Friday marks the first such Community Exchange.
A heart health presentation is scheduled for the first part of the exchange, and a time of open discussion on the topic among those in attendance is planned for the second half of the exchange.
“We want to get feedback from people. We want to hear what they have to say,” Haskins said.
“We want to base our services on the needs of the community.”
Registration for the community exchange is strongly recommended. To register, call health education supervisor Meredith Capps at 641-6288.
