Federal grant funding smoke detectors

TARBORO — A federal fire prevention grant awarded to the Office of the State Fire Marshal is benefiting residents in Tarboro. The alarms are being provided by the Department of Insurance through the grant to the State Fire Marshal.

“We have initially received 60 new smoke alarms, but can get more if we need them,” explained Fire Chief Frankie Winslow. Winslow said the free program has no age or economic restrictions.

“All you need to do is call us at 641-4288 or 641-4297 and schedule for us to come out,” he said.

Homeowner Clyde Rick was the first to take advantage of the program and last Friday, firefighters Brian Pearce and Daryl Lawson installed two detectors in bedrooms and a third in the laundry room.
