Lifelong learning program meeting Tuesday

TARBORO — A partnership between the Town of Tarboro and East Carolina University will give local residents a first-of-its-kind "unique opportunity."

The two have teamed up to bring Lifelong Learning classes to Tarboro and Edgecombe County. A free informational session set for 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Tarboro Town Hall will provide details about the program for people age 50 and older.

The meeting was originally scheduled for the last Tuesday of January, but was postponed due to inclement weather.

“It’s great to be engaging with ECU. I think this could lead to other partnerships between the town and the university,” said Tarboro Town Planner Josh Edmondson. “We see this as an opportunity to provide a unique learning experience for people ages 50 and older.”

The lifelong learning classes are offered free or at a minimal cost. The number of sessions varies for each class, and the classes are geared toward the needs and interests of the age 50 plus population, according to town officials.

“It’s not like your typical college class,” Edmondson said.

Among the class topics are local history, technology, social networking and preparing for emergencies.
