Four more rounded up in Operation Spring Fling

TARBORO — Curbing the war on drugs has been a continuing task for the Tarboro Police Department and the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Department. Both department's drug task forces are out in full effect rounding up suspected drug dealers in the city limits and county.

They're on a mission to deter the drug sales in the area and have been successful thus far. They have arrested over 60 suspected dealers in the past three months.

During the past week, the task forces rounded up four drug dealers for selling marijuana to undercover officers and are looking for a fifth suspect.

The officers set up a sting where they're making controlled buys from suspected dealers and then serving warrants on them at a later date.

Two of the four suspected dealers arrested were repeat offenders and both are currently on probation.

Friday, the task forces joined with the probation office and executed a warrantless search at 1001 Bradley Ave. in Tarboro. When officers entered the residence they found marijuana in 29-year old Lakel Javon Black's bedroom and in the living room. Officers also seized scales, bags and found more marijuana in a glass container.

Black already had warrants against him from the undercover operation and when they found the drugs inside the residence it added more charges.

Black was charged with three counts of possession with the intent to sell and deliver marijuana, three counts of possession with the intent to sell and deliver marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school, three counts of possession of marijuana, two counts of felony sell marijuana, two counts of felony deliver marijuana, felony maintaining a dwelling to store drugs, conspire to sell and deliver marijuana, and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was jailed under a $1,000 secured bond.

Also on probation is 36-year old William Maurice Hagans, of 307 Strickland Dr., Princeville. Law enforcement arrested him Tuesday on warrants for selling marijuana to undercover officers.

He was charged with two counts of possession with the intent to sell and deliver marijuana, two counts of sell marijuana, two counts of deliver marijuana, possession with the intent to sell and deliver marijuana within a 1,000 feet of a school, maintain a dwelling or vehicle to store drugs, two counts of possession of marijuana up to one half ounce and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Black and Hagans are currently on probation for recent run-ins with law enforcement for selling drugs to undercover officers in an earlier sting operation.

Also charged in the roundup were the following suspected dealers.

• Carey Cornelious Keyes, 56,  of 600 Phillips St., Tarboro, was charged with manufacturing marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school, manufacturing marijuana, possession of marijuana up to one half ounce and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was jailed under a $10,000 secured bond.

• William Donnell Johnson, 29, of Apt. 49 Northgate, Tarboro, was charged with deliver marijuana, possession with the intent to sell and deliver marijuana within a 1,000 feet of a school, possession of marijuana up to one half ounce, conspire to sell marijuana, possession with the intent to sell and deliver marijuana and sell marijuana. He was jailed under a $160,000 secured bond.

Officers are also looking for 25-year old Dezneion Parker, of 1232 Planter St., Rocky Mount. He has warrants pending against him for possession with the intent to sell and deliver marijuana, sell marijuana, deliver marijuana, possession with the intent to sell and deliver marijuana within a 1,000 feet of a school, simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
