West Edgecombe Middle School Beta Club visits nursing home

TARBORO — The West Edgecombe Middle School Junior Beta Club visited Heritage Nursing Home in Rocky Mount in December as part of their local community service requirement.

The students visited the nursing home residents, taking them holiday cards, singing Christmas songs and visiting with them before enjoying lunch at Pizza Inn.

“It was a really great experience for the students,” said Angie Ruffin, a teacher at West Edgecombe, “We do it every year.”

The club has recently started on a new service project for the second semester, collecting pennies for the lymphoma/leukemia society. The group also collected can tabs for the Ronald McDonald house during the first semester.

There are currently 56 students in the WEMS Junior Beta Club working towards a trip to the Beta Club State Convention in February to be held in Greensboro.

West Edgecombe Middle School is located at 6301 Nobles Mill Pond Road in Rocky Mount and serves 396 students in grades six through eight.
