RALEIGH – Transportation Secretary Tony Tata has announced Bobby Walston, PE, as the new director of the N.C. Department of Transportation’s Division of Aviation. Walston will oversee the day-to-day operations of the division, which promotes North Carolina’s economic well-being through air transportation system development and improved aviation safety and education.
Walston is he grandson of Mrs. Robert (Irene) Walston of Tarboro and has worked for NCDOT more than 23 years, including 21 years at the Division of Aviation, most recently serving as Deputy Director of Airports. He is a 1990 graduate of North Carolina State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Walston is a registered Professional Engineer, and currently serves in the NC Air National Guard as a Civil Engineer Officer at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. A native of North Carolina, Walston lives in Raleigh with his wife and has four children.
