Fall Festival set downtown on Saturday

PINETOPS — The League of Integrity's (LOI) main event has grown in just three years. The organization, which has held its events at Sunset Church of God and the National Guard Armory in the past, will host a full-fledged fall festival in downtown Tarboro on the Courthouse Square Saturday.

The festival is for people of all ages and festivities begin at 12 p.m. There will be a pumpkin carving and costume contest, cornhole tournament and professional wrestling throughout the day.

Co-chairmen Mike Braxton and Alan Davis have taken on a lot of responsibilities this year to host the event, which will be the first festival on Courthouse Square of its kind. They had the idea to turn it into a fall festival and decided to have it in the downtown area so they could get local merchants involved.

Tarboro Town Planner Josh Edmondson thought it would be a great idea, so he talked to all business owners to let them know about event.

"We're hoping we get a lot of people downtown during the event," Edmondson said. "Mike and Alan have put this together on their own and the event is theirs. All I've done was notified the businesses downtown and several of them will be open."

The duo went to the town to with the idea. Once they received permission to host the event, they asked the NC Department of Transportation about blocking off St. Andrew Street. That as well got approved and St. Andrew Street that runs in front of the courthouse from Pitt Street to St. James Street will be shutdown.

"We are pleased to be able to work with the town and have our event on the Courthouse Square," Braxton said. "Putting a festival together is humbling for us and it takes a lot of work and comes with a lot of responsibilities."

They put the League of Integrity together three years ago, in hopes of touching peoples lives through Christ and little did they know, they took on almost more then they could handle. They've had people from all walks of life to come join them.

"We're really humbled at the opportunity to host an event like this," Braxton said. "We've had this league going for three years and the main event has grown each year."

After LOI's basketball season is finished, they hosts a main event that brings in professional wrestlers. The first year the event took place, it was held at Sunset Church in the spring of 2011 with just the wrestling matches. Then last year, Braxton and Davis decided to do it around Halloween at the National Guard Armory and add extra activities to the event. They had a costume contest for best dressed and scariest. That gave them the idea to dub the event Havoc at Halloween.

This year Havoc at Halloween 2 is going to be held with a lot of extra activities for people of all ages to participate in.

"We have a first class town here and it's amazing that we're able to showcase this event in the downtown area," Davis said. "We should show our town off every time we get a chance too. It's a small town, but it's good clean living here."

The early activities that are taking place will be a pumpkin carving contest, cornhole tournament and costume contest.

Registration for the cornhole tournament will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. with an entry fee of $40 per team. The tournament will start at 12 p.m. Brewer's Jewelry is hosting the tournament and there will be a cash payout for first and second place. They are taking just 32 teams and it will be double elimination.

Registration for the pumpkin carving contest will be from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. and the event starts at 1 p.m. and the costume contest will be judge by the Princess of Edgecombe and North Carolina along with their courts.

Hibbett's Sporting Good, which is opening a new location in Tarboro, will have gift bags for the winners of the pumpkin carving and costume contest.

The main event will begin at 4 p.m. when the wrestlers take to the mat and their is no cover charge to watch. Superstars George South along with Ivan Koloff will be on hand along with local wrestler Damian Wayne, who is originally from Pinetops. Wayne will be in street fight against Louis Moore and a tag team title match will be between The Dawsons and Matt Houston and his partner Thunderfoot 3. There will also be a title match between Sonjay Outt and Justin Flash.
