Rocky Mount Fair opens Oct. 9

TARBORO — New rides and new entertainment join a new general manager as the start of the Rocky Mount Fair, the 74th edition, opens on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at the fairgrounds, located off U.S. 64 Bypass-Exit 472 on Old US 64.

The fair, which will feature rides and amusements from Playworld Amusements of Alma, Mich. This will be the fourth consecutive year for Playworld to provide the midway.

And instead of bringing in outside entertainment, the fair board this year decided to showcase the talent in Edgecombe and Nash counties, as well as throughout the region, through the “Rocky Mount’s Got Talent” competition.

In addition to a variety of local entertainers, the fair will also feature cheerleading competition and a nightly karaoke session.

In addition to two rmidway rides new to Rocky Mount — including the G-Force — helicopter rides, a petting zoo, and racing pigs will be among the featured attractions.

Newly appointed general manager Hubert Bullard said, “We want to provide a great family event and a real entertainment value for the people of this area.” Bullard has been involved as a fair volunteer and professional fair manager for more than 35 years. He is a Certified Fair Executive by the International Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE) and he has received the American Heritage Award from the IAFE, the Holmes/McBride Award from the North Carolina Association of Agricultural Fairs, and the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by Gov. Jim Hunt. Bullard is currently the manager of the Cumberland County Fair and eight other festivals throughout North and South Carolina.

“We are pleased to bring Hubert on board as part of our team and are proud to have him working to make the Rocky Mount Fair one of the best,” commented Board Chairman Norman Chambliss.

The Rocky Mount Fair is certified by the Department of Agriculture.
